Father Laughing

Written by Stephen Desilva

Blessings to all the fathers

We love and honor you!

Straining at these weathered oars,

A stormy day, its troubles pour

Out waves of worry that drizzle down

Like rain descending without sound.

My soul finds shelter at a meal

An unexpected friend appears.

We manage jokes and laugh and ponder

Life's delicate moments. This is my father.

Laughing. I did not expect it.

Once my feelings so dejected

Now rising like a soaking wick,

His older strength my soul collects.

Two old friends. Like school boys running

Others turn, and watch us wondering

Why we laugh and talk with passion.

This is my friend, my father. Laughing.

Those who call Bethel their "home" church regularly give a tithe to the Lord. The word "tithe" means "tenth" and it is a way of honoring God with the first 10% of our income.
